I have many reasons to be grateful...

From the June 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science. For about eighteen years I sought relief from physical disorders, and during that time I tried all kinds of doctors, change of climate, hot springs, and underwent two operations; then I was told that nothing could be done but submit to another operation. Because I would not consent to this, the doctor refused to try to do anything for me. I thought there was no use to go to another and did not know what to do.

Soon after this a friend handed me an advertisement of an herb doctor, on the outside cover of which was the verse, "The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations;" and because of this verse I went to see him. He, too, failed to help me, until one day when I was very much discouraged he said to me, "Do the best you can and leave the rest to the Father." This helped me, and I am very grateful to him for those words. I went away wondering how I could leave it all to the Father, and never went back. After about a week of almost constantly thinking about it, I surprised my husband one evening by asking him to take me to see a lady I had heard was a Christian Scientist, which he was very glad to do. I talked with her only a few minutes, but she told me some beautiful things about God which I had never heard, although I had been a member of an orthodox church for years, and then handed me a book to read, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I paid her for a treatment and hurried home to read the book that told about God as she described Him. The one treatment was all I needed, for I was healed of gallstones, malignant growth, and other ailments. Nine years have passed and there has been no return of them.

Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for all that the right understanding of God has done and is doing for me. Christian Science has indeed been the Comforter to me, for that one treatment healed me of grief that had been with me constantly for ten years, also of a great deal of fear, worry, and resentment. The Bible has been made a new book to me and I love to read it every day, for now I can understand it to a great extent and put into practice what I read. Through my healing, all of my family and a few other relatives and friends have seen the light and are now students of Christian Science. Every day I am thankful to God and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving to the world the "Key to the Scriptures" that has opened the Bible to" me.—
