About three years and a half ago my attention was brought to Christian Science by a few copies of the Sentinel sent me by a friend, and after reading them I sent for the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, hoping to find light on the Scriptures, but after reading it nearly through 1 laid it aside, feeling more hopelessly mixed up than ever. It lay on my reading table for eight months after that without being opened.
My health was never good, i had long sieges of severe sickness, and many times wished I could die and get rid of physical suffering. Early in the fall of 1917 I was taken down with so-called influenza and a complication of diseases. A doctor was called and I was freed from some symptoms but others became worse, and for four months and a half I could not get a good breath on account of pain in the lungs. It seemed as if there was no use trying to get well any more. Then the still, small voice whispered that it was time to prove Christian Science. I hesitated not a moment, but immediately asked my next door neighbor to call a practitioner on the telephone and ask for two treatments. Later I asked for one more treatment—three treatments in all.
I hardly know how or where to begin to tell the balance. I had not been able to sleep on my left side for thirty-six years on account of heart trouble. I suffered from chronic stomach and bowel disorder, frequent headaches of a very severe nature, and dizziness. All these ailments went at once and in just five days all pain left the lungs. The cough lingered about three weeks, then vanished. I have used no material remedy since I listened to and obeyed the still, small voice; and I am in better physical health than ever before. That is a great and wonderful blessing after so many years of suffering, yet it is little compared to others,—the different outlook on life, the change in disposition, and learning to know God aright. I am a healthy, happy woman and gaining spiritual understanding each day through the study of Christian Science.
