Nearly five years ago I was healed in three days by Christian Science treatment, of so-called intestinal tuberculosis, peritonitis, the effects of ptomaine poisoning, neurasthenia, throat trouble, and weak voice continuing after six operations, also many complications; but more than all else was the spiritual and mental healing. I was as unhappy and restless in thought in the orthodox church as I was sick in body under materia medica. Both theology and medicine were exhausted during the twelve years which were spent in semi-invalidism preceding my healing, and I had been without hope in either for nearly a year when Christian Science came to me. What physicians called a weak constitution had troubled me since early childhood, but with my healing I learned that I have always strength for every duty. I have since been equal to every call made upon me and they have been many and trying. A year afterwards I was healed of despondency, which seemed most obstinate, and there has been no recurrence of this mental state. Bad dreams of the most exasperating kind tormented me when, between attacks of sleeplessness, I could sleep, so that I was without rest or peace, either asleep or awake. This was all overcome by Christian Science in a few weeks.
For about eight years I had suffered from intermittent fever for several months annually and had not been allowed to stay in my home in Texas more than a few months each year, so spent most of my time in the mountains. After nine months of faithful treatment in that supposedly best of all climates by a tuberculosis specialist who was trying to build me up for an operation, without which the surgeon there said I could not live, I was told that they could do nothing further for me and was sent home to die. Right in Texas Christian Science healed me and for three years I was not outside the state.
In the light of Christian Science we have to-day a clearer understanding of Truth and Love which, our Leader tells us on page 567 of Science and Health, "come nearer in the hour of woe." It was proved to me that Christian Science does sustain and heal, even in the greatest trial which can come to our human experience. My thankfulness to God and to Christ Jesus, and my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for this healing truth are unbounded, not only for what has been done for me, but also because the entire world is awakening from its long dream and answering the call of the Christ, Truth, to come forth from its grave of materiality.
