Testimonies of Healing

I Have had abundant proof that...

From the August 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I Have had abundant proof that God is an ever present and available power under any condition. In October, 1908, after all material remedies had failed, so that I was facing a future of invalidism, at the urgent request of a sister who had been instantaneously healed of a structural defect of the eyes through Christian Science, I reluctantly consented, to give it a trial. I had immediate proof of its efficacy, for several chronic functional disorders yielded at once to treatment, and I was cured of neuritis in my left arm and shoulder. For five years this had rendered me almost helpless, unfit for work of any kind or for the enjoyment of the pleasures of life. Great as has been my joy over this healing it is of small value compared with the happiness of spiritual awakening.

My husband and I arrived in Russia in July, 1914, ten days prior to the declaration of war. Needless to say our original plans were completely upset, but five months later my husband accepted a promising position in Petrograd. Many times during the following four years we were forced to face dangerous situations. There was no relying upon men or man-made laws for our protection and our safety; but right there in the midst of the results of war, revolution, destruction, slow starvation, and the raging epidemic of cholera, we were sustained, and all sense of fear and anxiety was destroyed through the spiritual understanding of the ninety-first psalm, which to us had become a living, breathing reality. While in the midst of danger I was in possession of that serene peace which knows no fear. The promise, "For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the Lord will go before you," prevented me from worrying and making preparations for sudden flight. When finally we made arrangements to leave, it was solely due to our complete reliance on and understanding of divine guidance and protection that our trip from Petrograd to America was made in safety.

I wish to offer a tribute of gratitude to the dear Christian Scientists at Christiania, Norway, who gave so freely and bountifully of their great store of love to us during our stay there. My heart overflows with thankfulness to God and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for the revelation of this great truth to the present age, and for all our literature, which is of such inestimable value and help. —
