With a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science I offer the following testimony to its healing and saving efficacy. On the advice of my physician I went to the mountains in the hope that the change would do for me what medicine had failed to accomplish. I was suffering from the effects of three major operations, the last one having resulted in serious adhesions of the intestines, which skillful surgeons had pronounced incurable. These adhesions had so affected the normal action of the bowels that for several years I had taken material remedies for this trouble almost daily. Nervous exhaustion had gradually developed until I slept little, had no appetite, and was subject to frequent attacks of severe neuralgic headache and nausea.
I had considered myself very antagonistic to Christian Science; but shortly after my arrival at the health resort I met a lady who reflected so much Love and Truth that I was moved to inquire of her what it was that gave her such quiet strength and joy. When she had explained wisely and lovingly as much as I could grasp of Mrs. Eddy's fundamental teachings, I asked if she thought she could help me. She gladly took up treatment, with the result that in three days I was completely healed; and my thought was so exalted, my joy so full, that after a few weeks' study of Science and Health I was able to help some of those dearest to me. It is now about eleven years since my first healing, and I have relied entirely upon Christian Science for every need during this period.
About nine years ago I was healed of a structural defect of the eyes which had required the constant wearing of glasses since I was twelve years of age. This healing came through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and realizing the truth of Mrs. Eddy's definition of eyes (p. 586) as ''spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." Much of the time since then I have done the work of a reference librarian, reading a great deal at night as well, and have had normal vision without any sense of eyestrain.
