From childhood I was constantly under the doctors' care. After an attack of influenza and eight months spent in a sanatorium, I passed through the next winter worse than ever before. For a year I was not free from headache and always suffered from backache, besides being so sensitive to cold that I could not move even through the house without a fur cap on. Though I had been a good pupil at school my thinking capacities were so reduced that I thought I was going to lose them.
In 1905 an aunt wrote to me about Christian Science. I had never heard about it, but was ready to try it, as doctors did not seem able to help me. Only three weeks I had treatments and a great change took place in that time. Glasses which I had worn for a year were laid aside and the headaches and backache left me. After that occasionally I received help from a practitioner and so was gradually restored to health. After two years I passed through great sorrow and the trouble seemed to return, but I recovered so quickly that my family were astonished. Then I had the privilege of class instruction. My thinking had become normal and I had learned to rejoice.
Christian Science has made me a better woman morally and physically. The periodicals are my daily food, with the Lesson-Sermon, and I appreciate them the more as I am not near a church. To say I am grateful expresses my feelings but poorly, but I hope my life will become more and more a proof of my thankfulness.— Vlaardingen, Holland.
