The first reading of the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" confirmed beyond doubt my opinion of what man's relation to God should be, for while I had never prayed as Mrs. Eddy teaches us to pray, yet I had a firm conviction that God was ever present and there was a way by which man could reach the divine ear. It soon became manifest to me that if I would have communion with God, I must first put myself in the proper mental attitude to realize the allness of Spirit and the nothingness of matter, to cleanse my thought of everything unlike God or good, and to realize with an understanding faith that "with God all things are possible."
I realized that if I would have my prayers answered, I must first set about getting rid of many bad habits. With this small understanding of how to pray, a desire came to try to be clean, and as the desire ripened into understanding, I was overjoyed to see the habit of smoking and swearing, and the taste for liquor, disappear almost in a day. As I grow in understanding that God's business is the only business, and that as a child of God I am an heir with Christ to the kingdom of heaven, wherein are all riches, all happiness, I find that I am coming into my inheritance, and that where I was once poor I am now rich indeed, for I know that if I hold steadfast to the truth, there is nothing that can prevent me from having what is rightfully mine.
The Bible is becoming clearer, and I am able to grasp its spiritual meaning to a much larger degree. The many healings experienced in our family are proofs that "the Lord God omnipotent reigneth."—Salt Lake City, Utah.
