From my childhood I had known little but sickness and doctors. Finally a painful condition of ulcers and catarrhal trouble from which I had suffered for five years became very serious and I was warned of a malignant growth if I neglected treatment. I went through three operations for internal disorders, on being told they would help the other trouble, but grew worse, until I was in constant pain. All these years I would have an attack of grippe in October with one relapse after another until May, being in bed from one to three weeks every month. In the winter of 1909 I lost all hope of help;—I had been trying to learn something of Christian Science, but knew no one to ask about it. Finally, through a friend I heard of a way. I got up from a sick bed and went to see a practitioner, and shall never forget the hope that came to me with that first treatment. I went home full of peace. After the second treatment I ate a normal meal, something I had not been able to do for five years, and slept like a child. I continued to visit the practitioner for seven weeks and at the end of that time was strong and well, and able to do all my work.
I attended the Science church from the first Sunday I became interested and, although for twelve years I had been unable to sing a hymn through without irritation of the throat and loss of voice, I sang the hymns with no discomfort whatever. Three months after my healing, our family physician called to say that he had heard I was well and could not resist coming to see. I asked him if he would like to examine my throat, and he said no,—that my face was too full of peace to express anything but health.
My daughter had been away from school three years because of tubercular symptoms, nervous breakdown, and other ailments. She, however, began to study Christian Science in June and in the fall returned to school and carried extra studies. She had prominent front teeth owing to a deformed jaw, and one side of her nose was entirely closed, but these conditions have been overcome by knowing there can be no deformity in Mind and that man is God's perfect child. My husband has been healed of stomach and bowel trouble from which he had suffered since infancy. My youngest daughter was healed in two weeks of the effects of a very serious fall which a doctor said would take months or years to heal owing to internal injuries.
