Testimonies of Healing

When my little girl was first presented...

From the September 1920 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When my little girl was first presented to me I remarked that she had peculiar looking feet, but the nurse laughingly said she was very fat and I rejoiced in the thought that my baby was perfect. When she was ten days old, however, another nurse, who was bathing her in my room, told me the baby had crippled feet. A few moments later one of the members of the hospital staff came to me and told me that the condition was not really bad, for it would only be necessary to have the tendons cut and irons put on her feet and legs when she was old enough to walk, and that these could be removed when she was eight or ten years old.

When I was left alone the only thought that would come to me was that it was not true and that I did not believe it. All day this thought stayed with me and that night I was taken home. The next day, after telling those in my home that I had been informed of the condition, I was lovingly advised to call a Christian Science practitioner, which I did. After hearing my story she said to me, "Don't you know that God made man perfect and that therefore your baby is now perfect?"

Loving work was taken up, with the result that two months later when the physician looked at the baby's feet he expressed great surprise at the improved condition. When she was thirteen months old she walked, and now at the age of seven she attends the gymnasium and runs and plays with the same ease and is as active on her feet as any other child. Truly this is a proof of that beautiful promise, "If ye continue in my word ...ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I am filled with gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for the new understanding of God which she has given the world.—
