Testimonies of Healing

I am as thankful for the testimonies...

From the January 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am as thankful for the testimonies I read every week as if they were my own experiences. I am sending my own, praying it may encourage some one who is seeking the way of life and peace. Six years ago, prostrated and emaciated, I was led to take up the study of Christian Science. I had not had a well day for five years, and had been sentenced to the hospital by two medical doctors. For a short time all seemed dark for myself and loved ones. When I called for Christian Science literature, which I had had in my home for a year without any interest in it whatever, faintly, at first, the rays of divine Truth and Love began to dawn upon me, and, little by little the truth of God's presence and power began to unfold to my waiting sense. From my youth I had been active in all departments of church work, and tried to be honest and sincere in all I did, and often had glimpses of the spiritual life, but knew not that it was for me at all times and in all places. My healing of the main trouble was slow, but finally the victory was won. I have had many other demonstrations of God's power to heal and bless. It would take too much time and space to tell all that this Christ-way, as revealed by our noble Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has done for me. I have been healed of the deepest sorrow, resulting from the passing on of my husband and daughter. When the clouds seem to hang low and dense, by clinging to Truth we can hear the still, small voice speaking the "Peace, be still."

I will mention one other wonderful demonstration over fear, as it had bound me in chains all my life,—fear of storms, fear to travel, or to stay alone at night. One night my son, with my willing consent, left me. Like Paul and Silas in prison I prayed and sang praises to God until near midnight, when the bondage to fear was destroyed. I live alone, and know God is with me always. I have traveled from the Gulf to the Great Lakes, without a shadow of fear. The power of endurance is greater than ever before. I have been born again, and have some measure of life more abundant as promised by our Master. Daily I thank God for our Leader, who walked alone with God to give this beautiful, practical religion of the Christ to all. I cannot in words express the gratitude I feel for the help I have received from other Scientists in finding the way back to my Father's house, and for all the literature that is so helpful in leading our thoughts upward, away from the material things of earth. For all physical healings I am grateful, but to know and understand God's law is the greatest blessing.—
