It is my sincere desire that this testimony may help another seeker for health and happiness as the testimonies of others have helped me, when I was in need of a better understanding of God. I am a member of a branch church and regularly attend the services, and consider it my duty to express through one of our periodicals my deepest gratitude to God and to all who have helped me to understand Christian Science.
Three years ago I was very ill, and very weak. Rheumatism and other ailments confined me to my bed. My son, who had heard of Christian Science through a friend, brought me a copy of Der Herold and asked me to read it. I was not at all devout and would not read Der Herold on account of the cross on its cover. Then my daughter took me to a hospital, where I underwent every treatment that was considered good for my ills. Fourteen days later I left the hospital again, supposedly healed, but I was home only a few days when the same trouble reappeared. On my return to the hospital the physician decided that the kneecap was the cause of my suffering and that an operation would have to be performed. I then asked my son to bring that copy of Der Herold to the hospital for me to read, which he did. I understood almost nothing of this great truth until I came to the testimonies of healing. There was one testimony that was very similar to my case, and it awakened me in a measure out of the mortal dream, and brought me out of the darkness into the clear light, which has been made clearer and clearer through the loving help of a practitioner.
My healing was not quick, but is permanent. I am unspeakably grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me. There is no better way in which I can express my gratitude than in telling other sufferers of this healing truth.
