My share in the blessings of Christian Science has been great, one of which was the overcoming of restlessness which I seemed unable to control, which forced me again and again, as a nurse, to leave a case or any employment anywhere, within a few hours or a few days. No amount of money was sufficient to induce me to stay naturally at work, because of insistent restlessness. The reputation of being an unreliable "nervous freak" seemed mine for all time. Neuralgic headaches that would last for days, and what was termed nerve exhaustion have been overcome through Christian Science.
After many wasted years I went to a practitioner for help in Christian Science. That was eleven years ago. I was given help and absent treatment for a week. The results were so far beyond anything I had dared to hope for, that the uplift received carried me along for two years, and, as it were, awakened me from the deadness of despair, discouragement, poverty, and heart hunger to a new sense of life, of hope, and courage.
In addition to my other troubles, a fissure and a small hernia have been entirely overcome. I was told by a surgeon that the hernia would, unless operated upon, give me more trouble as I grew older. I read Christian Science literature but not understandingly. I began to find myself drifting back to old conditions, full of doubt and dismay; then I again turned to God with all my heart and earnestly sought guidance in reading my Bible and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, to gain a fuller understanding of its teachings. I began to spend many hours a day reading, and again divine Love met my need. Mechanical employment made it necessary for me to work amidst the noise of machinery that once I would have run away from in less than a day. Here I began my real progress in Christian Science in proving steadfastness and dominion over fear,—and here for the first time in my life I have been self-supporting for six years and have only missed one day from my work because of any physical disability.
