I first became interested in Christian Science through attending a lecture on that subject, after which I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mrs. Eddy, on account of a depressed mental condition. It was fully two years later that I turned to Christian Science for physical help. I was visiting at the time, and being troubled with summer complaint in an aggravated form I called for the help of a practitioner, and had an instantaneous healing.
Later, while visiting in another state, I was troubled one evening with pain in the ankle, and the next morning my foot was very much swollen and the pain excruciating. For three weeks I was unable to get about without suffering intensely. At the request of friends and relatives, I called in a physician, who was unable to give any relief; next, osteopathy was tried, but the condition became worse, and was attended by severe backache. I then turned to Christian Science, and asked for treatment. That night, for the first time in weeks, I slept soundly, all the pain had gone, and very shortly afterwards the swelling also entirely disappeared.
These are but a few of many remarkable healings, which have proved to me so definitely the truth of Mrs. Eddy's teachings. I am grateful for the many physical healings I have received in Christian Science, but am far more grateful for the understanding of the Bible which this teaching has given me, and for a satisfying religion. The reading of the Bible and textbook has opened up to me a new life; and as supplementary to these I find the literature of Christian Science most helpful.— Clinton, Iowa.
