It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I testify to the many blessings, physical and moral, which I have received through Christian Science. For two years I had been treated by oculists, having worn glasses for a long time to correct a defect from birth, which was every day getting worse, and my sight was also being weakened through the strain of night work which I had had to do. I submitted to an operation, presumably to stop one of the eyes from watering, which it was said would later cause me greater trouble, but I afterwards found myself in the same condition as before and very much discouraged.
It was then that I thought of turning to Christian Science, resolving, however, to seek only the physical healing, for I did not wish to take up this religion. I was only interested in getting a healing, and this to me seemed uncertain. After two weeks' treatment I laid aside my glasses without missing them. Then my thought underwent a change, and I saw the error to which I was in bondage. I was not spared experiences, and sometimes the struggle to overcome the belief in materiality was hard. Having read in Le Heraut that each experience rightly used is profitable, I learned to put aside personal sense and self-will and to rely entirely upon God for the solution of all the problems of existence. Then through the uplifting of thought and directing it always toward the truth, I began to understand that spiritual joy and spiritual life alone are real and indestructible.
Since then my character has been gradually transformed and through right thinking I have been able to overcome several errors. Through the constant study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and the Lesson-Sermons, and the benefit received from the Sunday services and the Wednesday evening meetings, I hope to become a better woman, to live a life according to Principle, and to reflect to my neighbor some of the good which I have received through Christian Science.
