In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks" (Science and Health, p. 3). When I began the study of Christian Science, I thought it strange that those who had been students for several years, as a rule, said so little about it. As I progressed, I began to understand that so vast a subject cannot be discussed lightly.
It is indeed a privilege to give an experience of the healing efficacy of the truth, and to express my gratitude for its many blessings to me and to my loved ones. The healing that seemed to awaken me most came during the time that influenza swept our country. A sense of resentment and great injustice seemed very real to me just then, and I came under such a severe attack of this disease that I had no idea anything could save me from death. I was healed through the work of a practitioner, in three and one-half hours, —a practitioner whom I had never seen, and who had but heard my voice over the telephone, when asking for help. I was not able to work for myself; in fact, I needed that proof to make the affirmation understanding that "with God all things are possible," and to know that it is God, Love, that heals.
I am profoundly grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her wonderful book, Science and Health, which has so blessed mankind, and has given me a better understanding of God, of Life, so that I have been able to help others to find the real and eternal. I strive to prove by my life my gratitude to God and to all who have so lovingly and patiently helped me to gain an understanding of Christian Science.—Chicago, Ill.
