A recent experience has led me to...

From the May 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A recent experience has led me to send in this testimony to show that if we protect our thought sufficiently with good all things will work together for our good, as the Bible declares. A few Sundays ago, before going to bed I worked many hours over a problem that I had seemed to have great difficulty in solving. In spite of all my endeavor, a feeling of great depression seemed to control me, which many hours of study did little to lighten. The only comfort that I received came through the verse, "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." When I read this verse I had a glimpse of the omnipresence of good and while the first part of the night seemed to pass with periods of great heaviness, broken with sudden nervous awakenings, with the morning came a feeling of great refreshment with the thought uppermost: "I must have made my demonstration." And I rejoiced that all feeling of heaviness had left me.

In the room next to mine, as I found out a few minutes later, the cock to a gas stove had been left open through some mistake, and a stream of gas the diameter of one's thumb had poured into the two rooms all night. So strong was the odor at the bottom of the house three stories below, that when the chauffeur came in early in the morning he began an examination of all the jets on the lower floors; yet in going from my own room into the next, I had not even noticed the odor of gas until I happened to bend over the stove.

For this demonstration I am very grateful, and for a better understanding of the truth that in protecting thought against one form of evil, we protect it against all evil, and that His angels do have charge over us when we earnestly strive to bring our thoughts into harmony with good. For the slight understanding which f have of divine protection, my heart is filled with gratitude to God, and also to Mrs. Eddy, the revelator of Christian Science to this age.—
