It is with the greatest joy and gratitude that I am sending my testimony of all that Christian Science has done and is doing for me. I came into Christian Science about four years ago seeking help for one who is very near and dear to me. A friend of mine had been healed through Christian Science and asked me to try it. At that time I knew nothing about it or any other religion, as I had not belonged to any church. My father passed away in my tenth year and I went to work to help my mother raise a family of ten small children, so did not have a chance to go to school. I could not read, and knew nothing about the Bible. Twenty years later I commenced to educate myself; therefore the Bible was a closed book to me until I took up the study of Christian Science, and when honestly seeking light for another I was brought to the light myself.
I borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that wonderful book by Mary Baker Eddy, and commenced to read it. The realization very quickly came to me that I needed this wonderful healing as much if not more than the one I had been seeking it for. It has made the Bible a book of joy to me for our textbook has taught me how to know God, and my relation to Him. About two weeks after I commenced to read, the desire for tobacco, the whisky habit, and the use of profane language all dissolved into their native nothingness. Hatred on account of what I then believed was a terrible wrong has been replaced by forgiveness. I am thankful to God for His loving-kindness, and I am so grateful for the uplifting of thought and for the regenerating power of Christian Science, for our textbook, and for all the literature.— New York, New York.
