I feel it my duty to express my gratitude for the enlightenment and good I have received through the study of Christian Science. I had attended many churches of different denominations, but none appealed to me, as none of them gave me an understanding of the Bible. I concluded that perhaps we were not to know the truth of its writings, and that they would remain a mystery, but why had it been written? I was reminded of the words of Jesus: "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." But where and how was I to find it?
One day my employer left a copy of The Christian Science Monitor on my desk, which I took home and read. I was much interested in a religious article on the Home Forum page. A few more copies of the Monitor were left on my desk, which I eagerly looked for, and I became more interested. Some time later my employer asked me if I had read the paper, and what I thought of it. My answer was that it was just what I had been looking for for some time; that it did not contain the sensational news that the other daily papers did, and I believed it to be the cleanest and best newspaper of this age, its editorials being of the highest standard. We then talked about Christian Science. I doubted all he claimed for it but I gave Christian Science a fair investigation and from that time—this was about three years ago—I became a student of its teachings.
I had a rupture for which the doctors advised the use of a truss, and said the only cure was an operation when reading Science and Health after I had gained some knowledge of God as Truth and Love, I decided to discard that uncomfortable truss. The rupture did not again come to my thought until about a week later, when I could not find a trace of it. About six months later I found I had a rupture on the other side, and, failing to overcome it with the understanding I had, I was tempted to use the truss again for a short time. On awakening to the error, I discarded the truss and relied wholly on Truth, and was entirely healed. This was about two years ago. Since then I have had many trials, and proofs of God's care. During the winter I fell on my knee and was unable to move, but on realizing God is All-in-all the pain left me and I walked two miles without any ill effect. It is impossible to mention all the good I have received from a knowledge of Christian Science, as revealed by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. My greatest desire is to know more of God. I am ndeed thankful for Christian Science. —Summit, Illinois.
