Testimonies of Healing

I herewith desire to express...

From the July 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I herewith desire to express my gratitude for the benefits received through Christian Science, and wish to relate briefly a few experiences. I awoke one morning feeling a pain in my right upper arm. I did not heed this, however, as there was nothing visible on the arm. In the course of the day a hardness became manifest and the arm commenced swelling, and after another day the whole arm down to the finger tips was very much swollen and I suffered considerably. My comrades declared it to be blood poisoning and advised me to consult a physician immediately. I did not do this, however, but requested Christian Science treatment from a practitioner, which was lovingly given. During the same evening the pain lessened considerably and after another treatment the swelling reduced and I suffered no more pain. In a comparatively short time the arm was again normal.

While I was in the Ukraine with my division, the grip epidemic was prevalent and I, too, became ill. I knew that at home they were constantly working for me in Christian Science, and this was a great comfort. In compliance with a military rule I was obliged to go on the sick list and was taken to the hospital. A few days later, in the opinion of the physicians my condition was hopeless, and I was taken to a room into which all those who, in the opinion of the physicians, had but twenty-four hours to live, were taken. Here I fell into a deep sleep and had probably slept several hours when I awakened. I felt hungry and requested the nurse to bring me a slice of white bread and some milk. He could not believe his ears but complied with my request, and I felt refreshed. The following morning the high fever had disappeared and the physician wondered greatly at my condition, for I did not feel ill. Patting me upon the shoulder, he remarked: "You can thank God that you were saved," and this I gladly did. During the four and one half years of war I experienced the blessings of Christian Science, enabling me to return home from the front in January, 1919, healthy and happy.

For this, as well as for all the other benefits which I have received through Christian Science, I give heartfelt thanks to God, as well as gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—
