I wish to express my gratitude with...

From the September 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude with my daughter for the good that has come to us through the study of Christian Science. The healing of burns, which she testifies to, is but one instance of the help she has had both in school and out. Before learning of Christian Science she was not physically strong enough to complete a term of school without a breakdown. She is now completing a four-year high school course in three years and a half with perfect comfort, and expressing more endurance each day.

I turned to Christian Science in search of healing for lung trouble. It was more than four years before this healing was realized, but during that time I had so many positive proofs that Christian Science does heal, that I knew I would gain my complete freedom. When discouragement presented itself I knew it was simply a demand for a little clearer discernment of the truth, a little firmer realization of the omnipresence of God and the operation of His laws. From the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I learned that God is Principle, and that Principle could not govern in one instance and not in another. On page 487 of this textbook Mrs. Eddy says: "This faith relies upon an understood Principle. This Principle makes whole the diseased, and brings out the enduring and harmonious phases of things." During these four years I was healed of a spinal difficulty, on account of which I was hardly ever free from pain; this condition had existed from the time I was a child and physicians of osteopathy had told me it could never be corrected. This experience and many others were proofs to me of the healing power of Truth.

I am truly grateful even though the healing was slow, for in my earnestness to know and understand more of God and man as His idea, I learned to live; I had never known the joy of living to-day, but was always waiting for to-morrow, when I hoped to be better. Now I can rejoice as did the apostle, that "now are we the sons of God." Peace, joy and comfort are ours when our thinking is governed by Principle, for as Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 322 of Science and Health, "When understanding changes the standpoints of life and intelligence from a material to a spiritual basis, we shall gain the reality of Life, the control of Soul over sense, and we shall perceive Christianity, or Truth, in its divine Principle."
