After having been healed of many diseases, both of the chronic and acute types, to say nothing of other wonderful proofs of the omnipresence of God brought home to me through the study and application of Christian Science, in my everyday life. I feel it my duty to God, to our revered Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, and to my fellow man, to mention some of these experiences as an expression of gratitude for what the truth has done for me in making me free from the law of sin and death.
Like many others I was very antagonistic toward what I thought Christian Science to be. It was while serving in the United States Marine Corps, that I met many who had been healed through the right understanding of God, but this healing I could not accept as possible at that time, as I had become what one might call an infidel. I could not understand the omnipotence of good when evil in all its various phases seemed to mortal sense so real. I was led to investigate the teaching, with the intention of opposing the subject in a friendly argument with some friends, who were all enjoying excellent health. The practitioner whom I called upon at this time for information answered my questions so clearly and satisfactorily that I was instantaneously healed of infidelity and chronic dyspepsia. I am truly thankful for this single experience, particularly so for the correction of the misconception which I had been entertaining about Christian Science, which faded into its native nothingness, through the demonstration of the healing power of God.
After purchasing a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I commenced to study in real earnest to understand the Bible, and as a result of this effort I have been able to overcome many claims of the carnal mind, as Paul called it simply by applying the Bible teachings, as explained in Christian Science, to whatever the false claim might be. According to materia medica the only way in which I could be saved from throat trouble was through an operation, but here again the truth proved the falsity of that claim. When the truth of what Mrs. Eddy says on page 468 of Science and Health, in the "scientific statement of being," was fully realized, that "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter," there was no more throat trouble, despite the doctors' verdict. Through this same understanding I have been healed of rheumatism, kidney disease, corns, and callous spots on the feet. The cigarette habit seemed more realistic to me than most physical claims at the time, and for that reason I again called on a practitioner for help, which was kindly given me. The inveterate desire for cigarettes was overcome in one absent treatment, and I have never cared for tobacco in any form since. For all the blessings I have received and am receiving each day as I progress in the understanding of Christian Science. I am truly thankful to God, and grateful to Christ Jesus the Way-shower, and to our revered Leader. Mrs. Eddy. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church, and for the Church Manual, with which I am becoming more familiar each day.
