Christian Science came to me as...

From the December 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came to me as the answer to my life-long desire for a faith which could stand true through all my questioning, and which with deeper and wider study would give increasing satisfaction. The Bible has become, through Mrs. Eddy's great gift to us, a practical guide, which aids continually during the daily routine; and it has also afforded inspiration and assistance for any new experience. With this new light have come many blessings to all of my household.

I was completely healed, through Christian Science, of a complication of diseases, including pneumonia of many weeks' duration. This was two years ago; and I have since then been physically stronger than ever before. During my illness a physician was called in, and noticing our small son, who had recently developed a cough, said he had membranous croup, and ordered antitoxin immediately. When I told him I wanted to have Christian Science treatment, he said he would give me just two hours. He asked me to call a neighboring doctor, as he could not be back in time, and said when I telephoned to ask him to bring the antitoxin with him. I called a practitioner, and she devotedly worked in Christian Science on the case. When the second physician came, he politely insisted that the first had been mistaken, as there was no sign of membranous croup,—only a slight croupy condition,—and that I must telephone the first doctor not to order the diphtheria placard which he had said would be sent to us. This was the final disappearance of a supposedly inherited, chronic croupy tendency.

So many forms of error have disappeared and been replaced by harmony; so much of good has come to my little son through the Sunday school; so many right thoughts of untold benefit have been brought into the home through the lectures heard and the literature read, that I find it hard to express my gratitude to our Father-Mother, God, to Christ Jesus, and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for Christian Science.—
