Testimonies of Healing

It is fifteen years this spring since...

From the December 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is fifteen years this spring since I began the study of Christian Science. During that winter I had had a severe attack of grippe, which had left me in what seemed to be a very weakened condition and with a cough which grew steadily worse. After trying several physicians and different medicines with no benefit, I turned to Christian Science. Though the healing was not rapid, yet I began to improve from the start; and the more I read and learned of the teachings of Christian Science, the more convinced I was that I had found the truth for which I had longed. I have counted as some of my greatest blessings the privileges of a church home, membership in The Mother Church and in a local branch church, and the Sunday school for our two children. I am also very grateful for class instruction, which has meant much to me. During these years I have had many testing times,—times when it has taken strength and moral courage, as we learn its meaning in Christian Science, to stand; but the truth, when faithfully applied, has never failed. I am grateful for a better understanding of the Bible teachings, which we gain through the study of Christian Science.

Some months ago I wakened one morning with a much overburdened sense of care. In taking up the Lesson-Sermon I found in the responsive reading the parable of the woman who had lost a piece of silver. The light seemed to break forth at once for me, and I saw how I could apply the same lesson to my need. Her loss was a piece of silver, while mine was peace of mind. We are told that she lighted a candle and searched diligently till she found it. I knew that truth was the light, and to light my candle and search was to put into use my understanding of Truth. The parable then goes on to say that when the woman had found her piece of silver she called in her neighbors and friends to rejoice with her. This had always appeared rather foolish to me before, but I now saw clearly the full import of its meaning, and I realized as never before the great wisdom which led Mrs. Eddy to establish the Wednesday evening meetings, and to give us opportunity through them and through our periodicals to share our manifold blessings, and to return our heartfelt thanks to God, the Giver of all good.—
