I cannot find words to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me. It is now eighteen months since Christian Science was brought to my notice. It appealed to me because I had a daughter who, when an infant, was thrown from her perambulator and injured; and though she walked a little until she was four years of age, afterwards she became semiparalyzed, and did not walk again for seven years,—that is, until she had Christian Science treatment. She was quite unable to bend her knees; and if at any time they were straightened they had to be bent for her. For two years and a half she lay strapped down in steel splints; and during all that time she could only just move her head and arms. After the two years and a half she was taken out of the splints, but had to wear a steel corset to keep her straight. We had her under eight doctors, one of whom told us that she would have to undergo an operation and have something done to the muscles of her legs, and that she might walk after it, but it was very doubtful indeed. We did not give our consent to this operation.
We had been having Christian Science treatment for only two weeks when my daughter could bend her legs without, our aid. After three months' treatment she was able to walk about by just holding on to something for a little support. Now she can run about like any other child. She is growing taller and getting much fatter. Her legs were so very thin that it seemed impossible for her to stand on them; but they are just as they should be now. I must also say that before I commenced the study of Christian Science if I just raised my daughter to her feet (holding her of course), she could not stand with her feet flat, but had to stand on her toes. I wish to say this because when she first stood up after Christian Science treatment was begun she put her feet down quite flat. She is now going to school, and getting on wonderfully well.
Besides this healing it is the spiritual uplift which one feels so very grateful for, and the fuller understanding it gives one of God, good. I now read the Bible with pleasure; before, I scarcely ever read it.— Heaton Mersey, nr. Manchester, England.
