It is with a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science that I add my testimony to the healing power of Truth. I was practically an invalid, as the result of a surgical operation, when Christian Science was brought to my notice by a stranger, who, knowing my need, gave me the "cup of cold water in Christ's name," proving that "those ready for the "those ready for the blessing you impart will give thanks," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 570 of Science and Health.
I had never heard of Christian Science, so that when this lady came, telling me the message of salvation, I was deeply interested. One day, she left with me a Christian Science Sentinel; and, opening to the testimonies of healing, I read a testimony of a woman who, though her physical condition was not like my own, yet mentally seemed to be at the same place I was, being filled with a great sense of fear and discouragement. I became convinced that if she could be healed, so could I. The next day, I asked this dear lady to loan me the book mentioned in so many of the testimonies, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I began reading at eleven o'clock in the morning, and continued to read until two o'clock the next morning. This was on Wednesday; on the following Saturday I remembered the drug which I had been relying on, only to find the desire for, and confidence in it, completely destroyed. While the restoration to perfect health seemed slow at the time, with faithful and continued study of the textbook I was able to do whatever it was my duty to do without fear that physical exhaustion would follow.
Previous to my healing my interest in matters religious had been very small. Christian Science has taught me a love for the Bible that I would not have believed possible. I wish to give thanks to our heavenly Father for our beloved Leader; for her wonderful work in giving us this truth through her inspired writings; for the beauty and order of the Christian Science services; for the Reading Rooms and our beloved periodicals. I realize that actions more than words attest our gratitude for her who revealed the Science of Christianity.— Philadelphia, Pa.
