I have received such great benefit...

From the October 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have received such great benefit from Christian Science that I should like in gratitude to tell something of what it has done and is doing for me. From childhood until I was over forty I scarcely knew what it was to be well, indigestion, with its attendant evils, and rheumatism being the chief troubles. I had been brought up to believe in the Bible, but all my asking brought no relief; so I lost faith in it, and was in a wretched state of unbelief and ill health, longing to die and be at peace (as I then thought), when Christian Science was brought to my notice through the healing of a friend. My hope revived. I obtained the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and from the first chapter, on Prayer, became so absorbed that I read the book on every possible occasion, with the result that when I thought of myself again it was to find that indigestion had gone and I was able to eat anything, and that rheumatism was troubling me less. How happy I felt! I had found the "pearl of great price," the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding," and the Bible had a new meaning for me. It was not merely a new religion; it was Life! And the spiritual uplift was wonderful!

But there were so many faults to overcome, as well as fears which had governed me all my life, that I had to come down and begin at the foot of the mountain to climb up. Many a time I have stumbled and doubted and been discouraged; but the remembrance of that wonderful first healing from the reading of Science and Health has always brought me back to the narrow way that leads from sense to Soul; and now I have learned not to be discouraged, but to work on patiently, knowing that if I am faithful even over a few things I can leave the rest in my Father's hands. Through the little understanding I have gained of the truth, I have been able to demonstrate over sore throat, burns, and minor ailments.—
