"THE HIDDEN MANNA"

From the July 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN Revelation there is a statement of great significance to the Christian Scientist: "To him that over cometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna." "To him that overcometh"! Clearly then it is the privilege of such a one to receive the blessings bestowed upon the children of God; he it is who shall taste of heaven's bounties and be satisfied. "To him that overcometh" shall it be given!

When the Saviour came to the world over nineteen centuries ago, his star was seen by the Wisemen where materialism had hidden from view the pure, simple verities taught by the patriarchs and prophets of old. The daystar arose; and those who were watching experienced the wonders wrought by Jesus through his exalted vision of sonship with God, which enabled him to lift the blinding veil of distorted sense and to bring salvation to humanity.

What preparation had been necessary, one asks one's self, for this greatest exponent of Truth to reach such heights of power and assurance as to be able with a word to dispel the fetters which bound mortals to sin, disease, and death? Being "in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin," surely our Master must have won his way to dominion through unfaltering faithfulness, persistent loyalty, and unswerving obedience. Surely it was his self-sacrifice, devotion, and purity that enabled him to penetrate the veil of materiality and bring to light the manna, God's everlasting gifts to man, which had been hidden by falsity.
