It was in 1919 that I began the study of Christian Science in earnest. At three different times in previous years I had attempted to take it up, but failed because of prejudice and lack of interest. This time, however, it was my last resort.
Three years before, I had been stricken down suddenly with an attack of severe nervous trouble. The physicians at first diagnosed it as due to enlargement of the thyroid gland, and I was made to lie flat in bed the greater part of the time for seven months. It was hoped that this would restore the action of the heart to a normal condition. But at the end of three years spent in sanitariums, a hospital, and at my home with nurses and doctors, I was far from being well. I was obsessed with fear; my nights were sleepless; and my days were spent in idleness, lest activity of any kind should injure my heart. Then it was that Christian Science came to me and I was healed. During the previous years of suffering, my thought had become humbled and purified to the extent that I was ready for God's truth.
Over a year after I had started to study I experienced an instantaneous healing of a very sore throat. Unconsciously I was healed of a difficulty for which I had taken medicine and other material remedies all my life. Also, I have been healed of selfishness, a revengeful nature, and an ugly temper. In short, my whole life has been changed by the light of Christ, as revealed in the Bible and explained so perfectly in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
