I left school and started earning my own living at an early age, and at thirty was sales manager of a large concern, happily married, and established in a position in which I was considered quite a success. Just about this time Christian Science was brought to my attention, and, not having been a church member, or in sympathy with any of the established forms of religion, although naturally of a somewhat religious turn, I eagerly embraced this beautiful teaching. I immediately found, however, a vast difference between my former line of thinking and this new idea of God and man's relation to Him. I continued to read and study, and naturally, as was but right, I soon commenced to get the proper perspective of life, and of what to labor and to gain mean.
In continuing the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Bible, with the help of the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermons, I soon came to the conclusion that whatever I had gained in the way of material success and position was founded on an unsubstantial base,— that I had built my wall on a foundation of sand,—and the desire to change to a more solid foundation at once was very strong. However, thanks to the advice of helpful friends, I did not throw down the entire wall before starting on the more substantial basis, as in my untempered zeal I might have done to my sorrow; but I have been trying ever since to change my wall from the sandy foundation of human will to the rock of Christ, very slowly, one brick at a time, and this has been going on now for several years.
During this time I have had many wonderful proofs of the healing power of divine Love. I have been cured, by reading the textbook, of chronic constipation and attendant headaches, from which I had suffered almost continually for years. In this same manner I was also cured of the tobacco habit of fifteen years' standing, which I had many times endeavored without success to overcome through human will-power. Many other ills of the flesh have been overcome; also, daily supply has been demonstrated, and guidance to my proper place,—all through the application of the truth, or Christian Science, to these problems when they seemed to appear. Needless to say, neither I myself nor the members of my family have taken a drop of medicine since this wonderful truth came to us. I can truthfully say that Christian Science has been our only physician, lawyer, guide, and our very best friend for a number of years. It has never failed when properly applied, or when we have had the humble faith to trust God whole-heartedly. My gratitude is unbounded, and I hope to prove this by emulating to the best of my ability the wonderful love and compassion for humanity shown by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. In gratitude to our Father-Mother God, and to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, I desire to demonstrate to the world a little more each day that Christian Science is indeed the truth which makes free.—Seattle, Washington.
