Testimonies of Healing

For the wondrous light and liberty...

From the July 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For the wondrous light and liberty, the freedom, joy, and satisfaction that have been revealed to me through the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I shall ever be grateful.

When Christian Science was first brought to my notice I was morbid, lonely, unhappy, looking for something to satisfy my deep need. I read the textbook, which had been lent me by a friend, but did not seem to get much out of it at the time. About a year later I again read it and began to attend the Christian Science services and to study the Bible Lessons as set forth in the Christian Science Quarterly. I rejoice every day in the continuous unfoldment of this truth of God, practiced by Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and revealed to this age by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I am very deeply grateful to have found a religion that satisfies my every need.

About three years ago I was attacked by a virulent skin disease. It was with great difficulty I was able to direct my business or even attend to my simplest needs. My hands were crippled; the whole system seemed poisoned; and several times I was on the verge of collapse. The practitioner who had been helping me all through this trying time, and for whose patience, love, and kindness I am profoundly grateful, discovered that in my work I gave violet ray treatments. I had not mentioned this to her, as I had not connected its use with my discordant condition. That day, after my visit to the practitioner, I was impelled to turn to the textbook. Opening it at page 504, I read these words: "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously." These words came to me with remarkable clearness, wondrously illuminating my darkened consciousness. I knew that God was indeed my light and my salvation, and that there was nothing to fear. The only rays were the rays of Truth. For me God's day had dawned, and a radiance not of the sun shone about me. I learned the significance of Mrs. Eddy's words on page 93 of Science and Health, "Destructive electricity is not the offspring of infinite good." From that day I have never administered the above-mentioned method of treatment. My health also was restored. For this healing; for the increased understanding and unfoldment of Truth; for the privilege of church membership; for the writings of Mrs. Eddy; and for the periodicals, I am very deeply grateful. My one desire is that my life may prove my sincerity by reflecting more of Life, Truth, and Love.
