It is four years since I was first introduced to the subject of Christian Science, in order to help a dear one who was suffering intensely, and whom the doctors could not relieve. When I was told Christian Science would heal without drugs, I was rude enough to say, "I could never believe that." I was sufficiently interested, however, to buy the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
I did not come into Science for physical healing, although I needed it very much. I was a wreck, and had been treated for about fifteen years for nervous disorders. I weighed only ninety-eight pounds. As I was becoming weaker it was a misery to move around; my daily thought was, If only I could die and get out of it all! But, as Mrs. Eddy says on page 203 of Science and Health, "God, divine good, does not kill a man in order to give him eternal Life, for God alone is man's life." I have proved this in the joy that has come to me in living instead of dying.
Mere words cannot express what I feel for the wonderful truths given us by Mrs. Eddy. My heart overflows with gratitude for the many healings I have had. My eyes were very painful, and I was told by an optician that the sight was nearly gone from one eye and that I would have to wear glasses always. Knowing so little of Christian Science, having only read the textbook twice, I prayed every night to be shown the way, knowing that if I received the healing, it would be another proof that Science was the truth and also be of help to my dear one. I read the textbook every night for about one month, when my eyes were perfectly healed.
