When I first came to Christian Science...

From the June 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I first came to Christian Science I was a most miserable woman. I had grown very despondent, and had lost all interest in life. For over twelve years, I had suffered from a most distressing stomach trouble, which all the doctors I had tried pronounced incurable. As time went on, I got gradually worse, and became weaker and weaker. I tried everything I could think of, but got no relief. At last, when all hope seemed to have left me, I was led to take up the study of Christian Science; and it soon gave me hope.

One morning, about five years ago, I took up the Christian Science Quarterly to read the Lesson-Sermon, when my attention seemed to be drawn to a passage in the Responsive Reading. I seemed to get a glimpse of light such as I had never got before, and I soon realized that I was healed; for shortly afterwards I parted with a large stomach worm. From that time I have been well, able to do a good day's work, instead of being a trouble and a source of anxiety to all around me, as I used to be.

I am very grateful to Christian Science for this healing, and to Mrs. Eddy for opening up to us that wonderful truth which first encourages us and gives us hope, and then, when we persevere with its study and apply it faithfully, sets us free.
