Although I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, it is with deep gratitude that I testify to the efficacy of Christian Science to heal physically, mentally, and financially. It has been our only help since 1913. It is so simple that children can understand and use it, and yet it has power to destroy all erroneous beliefs.
I should like to tell of a healing of a burn which took place several years ago. I was in the laundry of my home, and the one who was helping me was filling a boiler with a hose which was attached to the hot-water faucet. This water was heated to near the boiling point. The hose slipped off, and the water struck me directly in the chest, soaking my clothes and scalding the flesh. I immediately began audibly to declare "the scientific statement of being," as found onpage 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and tried to realize that man is spiritual and not material. I was helped to the upper floor, because I felt as though I might faint. The thoughts that came to me were these: If you can separate yourself from the belief of life in matter and know that you are spiritual, not material, not in or of matter, you will be free. I held to these angel thoughts, and in an hour and a half I was free, able to finish my work, and go on an errand of several miles on a street car; and but for a redness, which remained for several days, I was perfectly free. I am grateful for this proof of the allness of Spirit and the nothingness of matter.
As an example of how children can apply this truth, the following experience of our son, who was then in the seventh grade of school, is related. In getting out of an automobile he caught his wrist on a broken handle and cut it so that the blood spurted freely. On being asked what he did when this happened to him he said that he sat down on the curb and put his hand over the cut and knew the truth; he did not just think, but knew, that there is only one right flow and that is the flow of good from God to man; and the bleeding stopped at once. This child had had a great deal of trouble with nose bleeding. After his experience with the wrist he applied this truth to the nose trouble and was completely healed.
