During the year 1911 I was a very discouraged, sickly woman, having suffered for nearly a year. I had been taking various treatments, but was not healed. While lying on my bed one evening, discouraged, and considering what to do, these words came to me: "Try Christian Science." Early the next day the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was procured from the public library. I read it constantly every day, and gradually improved in health; so that within the month I was apparently completely healed. My husband invested in a business which required my assistance, and from then on my time was so taken up with material things that I neglected to read or go to church; but I was convinced Christian Science was the only true remedy.
In a few months the trouble manifested itself again. I then turned to Christian Science in earnest. I purchased a copy of Science and Health and read it every day, with a growing desire to know more of this beautiful truth. I went to the Sunday services, to the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, to the Christian Science lectures, and made many warm friends among the Christian Scientists. They were very kind in giving me literature to read. I enjoyed the quiet hours at the Reading Rooms, and the Scriptures became more precious to me.
My healing came slowly, but many problems were worked out through the help of Christian Science. We were physically, morally, spiritually, and financially helped many times. An unjust law suit that was being forced upon us was settled out of court. On the day that our case was to be heard in the court room I went to the Reading Room and spent two hours reading and seeking divine guidance. The sense of man's dominion over evil and of God's protection came so clearly to me that our case was settled out of court in our favor that day.
