In her book "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 2) our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has written: "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness." Our family has indeed experienced this "part of Christian Science" in the healing, first, of my mother of a severe stomach and bowel trouble of thirty years' standing. This was accomplished through the earnest study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was several years before the healing was complete, but she was encouraged to continue her efforts, because several minor complaints disappeared, and she could see that "the old man with his deeds" was being put off.
My brother was healed permanently of quinsy sore throat in a short time, and from the results of an accident. My sister and I were healed so quickly of scarlet fever that it was not necessary to be quarantined. My husband was healed of influenza and of the desire to smoke.
After I reached the age of twenty and was no longer eligible to attend Sunday school, I continued to attend the church services; but it was several years before I awakened to the fact that the Christian Science movement needed adherents,— needed earnest, active workers,—and that I was not availing myself of the privilege of church membership. I then joined the local church and, later, The Mother Church. This has meant much growth and progress, because church activities teach us to lose self—to let God govern and to trust Him to "bring forth thy righteousness as the light."
