Testimonies of Healing

From the July 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During the last twelve years the numerous testimonies which I have read in the Christian Science periodicals have been a source of great comfort to me, and an encouragement to continue my study of the subject. I am grateful for the understanding I have gained of God as an ever present help, which can be proved under all circumstances. One of the first lessons I learned was to put into practice the command given in the Scriptures, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." We also learn that "trials are proofs of God's care," as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66) This I have proved; also, that sorrow and disappointment do not leave us where they find us; for if we apply the truths of divine Principle, we go up higher and see the nothingness of human desires.

When I became interested in the study of Christian Science, I was depressed and despondent over difficulties which had come into my life. After gaining some understanding of its teachings I was lifted above the sense of these conditions. I have had many proofs of the healing power of Truth over physical ailments, among them influenza. I was told afterward by those about me that I had had a very high temperature, and it was anticipated that serious complications would appear. I have been healed of a severe sore throat without assistance from a practitioner. At one time I was healed of a cold, which manifested itself in an aggravating form. The nights seemed terrible, though I was able to be up each morning and to continue my duties during the day. The healing was slow, but complete, and there has been no recurrence. Though I am a graduate medical nurse, it was easy for me to overcome the need or use of medicines. Christian Science has taught me how to be more charitable by thinking only good thoughts about my fellow-men; and this has proved a great help in dealing with so-called insane patients. I am grateful for all the blessings which have come to me through the study of Christian Science. I am striving daily to have that Mind in me "which was also in Christ Jesus." I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction; for the periodicals; and for the hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal, the words of which are a great help in uplifting thought. I am also grateful that Mrs. Eddy lived a consecrated life and revealed to the world this truth.—
