Testimonies of Healing

For over twenty years, Christian Science...

From the November 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For over twenty years, Christian Science has been my daily guide, affording relief from pain and comfort in distress. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude; only daily service for the Cause can prove my sincerity and love for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

I knew of Christian Science about three years before my interest was awakened, but having read many philosophical books by learned men, I was loath to believe that a New England woman could approach them in knowledge or understanding. However, the time came when my husband's illness, inflammatory rheumatism, was pronounced incurable, and he was advised to make himself easy with morphine and await the end. As we had two little children this was a sad outlook. Christian Science came to our rescue, and with the help of a practitioner he was permanently healed.

Then help was sought for our little boy, three years old, who was suffering from periods of collapse following typhoid fever. The physician doubted his recovery, saying his heart probably could not stand the strain. The child never had another attack, and is now a young man in good health. Our little girl, two years old, was suffering with intestinal indigestion, which the physicians said was an adult trouble. They could do nothing for her, and said she could not live much longer. She suffered very severely at times. The practitioner was asked to help her, and worked faithfully, but the healing was delayed. After three months' treatment with no visible improvement, but rather with aggravated conditions, the practitioner told me the little girl continued to suffer because of the anxiety and fear in my own consciousness and also a refusal on my part to give up my preconceived notions. She wished to discontinue treatment, saying that the work was mine to do. I then humbly sought to break down every prejudice, to silence human will, and to kneel meekly at the feet of the Christ and learn of him. The child began to improve at once, and in three months more was perfectly well. She is now a healthy young woman.
