Testimonies of Healing

When over thirteen years ago I...

From the December 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When over thirteen years ago I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to help another, I had no thought of healing for myself, as I had always enjoyed very good physical health; but I have had many healings when I needed them, and for the peace of mind, the changed outlook on life, due to a higher mental standpoint, and for a new happiness, I am increasingly grateful.

Early in my study of the truth I was healed of constipation after using artificial means for fourteen years. Fear in various forms—such as intense fear of cattle, caused by a fright in childhood, fear of being drowned, which prevented my learning to swim, fear of speaking in public—has disappeared easily and naturally. I am very grateful for a healing of warty corns underneath the foot by the realization that as there is no substance in matter (see Science and Health, P.468) there can be no weight in it. I have learned with gratitude many lessons in love, true humility, forbearance, and tolerance. I am grateful also for being able to possess all of Mrs. Eddy's works, and for being able to subscribe to the Journal, the Sentinel, and the Monitor. Regarding the last named, I began by getting one copy weekly, more from a sense of duty than with any thought of benefiting myself; but I was soon led to subscribe for every issue, and I have never regretted doing so. To the objection raised by many living in far off lands that "the news is old" I would say the questions to be asked are: Is it true? Is it clean? Is it instructive and uplifting? The Monitor gives an emphatic affirmative answer to all these questions. Being an international newspaper the Monitor is full of interest to all sections of society throughout the world.

I wish also to express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church, for the privilege of class instruction, for the loving help of practitioners, and, above all, for the increased understanding of God and His Christ made possible through the inspired and loving work of our revered Leader.—
