REFLECTION

From the December 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE Psalmist sang, "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." When we approach it from a spiritual standpoint, what a depth of meaning is found in the word "reflection"! The real man is the reflection of God. Therefore, God is revealed through man, His idea. How much responsibility this understanding throws upon those instructed in Christian Science! It is their blessed privilege continually to strive better to reflect God in all their thinking!

A student of Christian Science once went to a practitioner for help in the overcoming of several erroneous conditions which were becoming tenacious. The practitioner said little about the so-called material difficulties, but very lovingly inquired of the student seeking help: "Do you believe in reflection? Do you endeavor to reflect impartial love and true spiritual activity?" The student was a bit surprised by these questions, but she faithfully began to study "reflection"; and as time went on she became increasingly grateful for the gentle admonition and recognized it as an angel-message; for obedience to it immediately began to conquer the obstacles which had seemed to becloud her thinking.

On page 91 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy has written, "Absorbed in material selfhood we discern and reflect but faintly the substance of Life or Mind." Are we not "absorbed in material selfhood" when we manifest inharmony of any kind?
