It has been with great gratitude that I have read the many and varied testimonies in the Journal and Sentinel, from which at all times I have found comfort and help. Now I should like. to add my own testimony to the long list, hoping that it may help and encourage some seeker who, perhaps, is where I was seven years ago. At that time I was a hopeless sufferer from organic heart disease and chronic indigestion, given up by my last medical adviser and, according to his verdict, with but a few weeks to live. I decided to seek the aid of Christian Science, and with a hopeful heart saw a practitioner. I knew nothing about Christian Science then. I shall never forget the loving way several truths in the Bible were pointed out to me and the wonderful comfort and help given me. When I left the practitioner I had grasped three truths: God as the only Life; His ever-presence; and the fact that in His great love He willed for me nothing but good. With my thoughts filled with these truths I was able to go forth and walk up a hill to my home, something I had not done for a considerable time, having been forbidden to do so by my medical advisers.
I could never express the joy and gratitude I felt on reaching home, upon realizing what I had accomplished through my new understanding of God and by placing my reliance on Him. That night I experienced the first peaceful night I had enjoyed for a very long time, being able to rest fearlessly in God's care. Within ten days I was also healed of every trace of indigestion.
At that time I was using two pairs of glasses, my sight being very defective; and all my life I had been subject to severe throat trouble. These conditions also disappeared, for from that day I have never worn glasses, nor have I had any throat trouble. No wonder I daily grow in gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her consecrated life, used to give to mankind the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and to demonstrate God's goodness and power.
