TRUE CIVILIZATION

From the August 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WEBSTER defines "civilization" in part as "relative advancement in social culture."

The controversy of the age is between the belief that human knowledge in its various forms—in other words, intellect—can solve all human problems, and the understanding of the divine fact that God, Spirit, intelligence, has already done all, and that His creation has only to be understood and demonstrated.

Humanity is reaching out for material so-called knowledge; and as a result, striking progress is manifest in the arts and natural science. What men are really desirous of reaching, however, is true intelligence or spiritual understanding. This spiritual intelligence is beyond human knowledge.
