Since I have known of Christian Science, this religion has brought to my family and to me so many blessings that above all I wish to express my gratitude for the fact that Mrs. Eddy, through the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has again revealed the way to health and the understanding of spiritual, eternal Life. It was not physical suffering that led me to Christian Science, but the earnest desire for truth and righteousness. Even though I was skeptical during the first few years of my study of Mrs. Eddy's works, and, lacking the necessary understanding, often criticized the teachings of our Leader, and especially the By-Laws of the Church Manual, all these hindrances could not prevent me from continuing my study of Christian Science Mind-healing. The great and seemingly unconquerable doubt which again and again asserted itself was so thoroughly and convincingly wiped out when I received class instruction, that my erroneous way of thinking was completely changed; for which I am inexpressibly grateful.
The innumerable demonstrations which my family and I were privileged to experience with the help of Christian Science especially strengthened me and increased my faith in the unlimited power of God. A fondness for smoking has left me. An irritable disposition, together with extreme sensitiveness and a hot temper under which those around me often had to suffer unjustly, has, through the application of Christian Science, gradually disappeared.
It is an indisputable fact that from the moment Christian Science entered our home, we have had no need of medical help, although all kinds of error, such as diphtheria, mumps, measles, inflammation of the throat, an eye trouble, fever, toothache, heart difficulty, nervous complaints, sprains, and so forth, have been manifested. When fear had been destroyed through a correct view of man, as Mrs. Eddy teaches, these were usually overcome in a short time, in some cases with the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
