Christian Science came to me over sixteen years ago as a direct answer to prayer, after a period of four years' very earnest search to find the truth about God. While I had an unshaken faith in God, or in a supreme power of some kind, still for many years it had been impossible for me to accept the teachings of the so-called orthodox churches, and there were many questions I had pondered that were never satisfactorily answered. Then Christian Science was brought to my attention through the work done and help received by a patient where I was employed as a trained nurse. After reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, through to this patient, I saw that Christian Science was the truth; that it answered all my questions satisfactorily, and that it was what I had been searching for; so I immediately accepted it, and from that day to the present it has met my every need. During this time there have been many problems solved, many physical healings experienced, and many undesirable traits of disposition overcome.
One healing in particular stands out on account of the lessons learned. The case was what physicians would have called severe blood poisoning. While I seemed to go through many of the symptoms, such as chills, fever, and heavy perspiration, still there was no pain, and there was no sense of fear as to the outcome, even though I was in a house where there were no other Christian Scientists. Every need was lovingly met, and there was not even a suggestion of any material aid offered me. Finally, one day, in less than a week, this condition broke while I was asleep. From then on my freedom was gained, so that in less than three weeks the whole manifestatin was healed. Two lessons stand out to me: the power of divine Love to protect us under any condition, and the fact that Mind is the best surgeon when relied upon absolutely.
I have also been healed of hay fever, polypus growths in the nose, many chronic throat conditions, a broken kneecap, itch, eczema, and minor ailments. For all of these healings I am truly grateful; but I am most grateful for the understanding of God, which gives us an ever greater sense of freedom, peace, joy, and harmony. During the last twelve years, in my work as a Christian Science nurse, it has been my privilege to see healings of almost every nature demonstrated, among them the healing of paralysis, cancer, diphtheria, scarlet fever, broken bones, club foot, pneumonia, eczema, and insanity in one of its worst forms. I have also seen painless childbirth. These have been to me proof that Christian Science is exact, demonstrable Science, which, when proplerly applied, does free us from sin and sickness.
