Great gratitude prompts me to submit this testimony. Many years ago, when I knew nothing of Christian Science, I was so very ill with kidney and heart trouble that I no longer hoped to be healed. The doctor whom I consulted told me that the disease was so far developed that she could do nothing more for me. My family, not being satisfied with this verdict, urged me to go to a homeopathic doctor, who also said that I could not be healed. Since I had extreme pain and constant dizziness, he gave me powder and pills. At first I thought I noticed some improvement, but little by little things grew worse again. Once when I told him that I had such excruciating pains, he said that it could not be otherwise, because of the condition of the kidneys.
Yet where the need is greatest, God's help is nearest. That was my experience; for a dear friend told me of Christian Science. I was led to a practitioner who in a loving way explained its divine Principle, and gave me help. Filled with great joy and confidence in our dear Father, whom I had now learned to see in a new light, I went home and immediately threw all material remedies into the fire. With a light heart I lay down to rest, and after so many painful, sleepless nights was able to sleep peacefully the whole night. Refreshed and full of gratitude to God I got up that morning, and with astonishment found that I was free from dizziness. I was not yet entirely free from the pains, but they were more bearable; and gradually, as I approached the understanding of Truth, they also disappeared. After three months' treatment I was completely healed and could again do hard work. The healing has proved to be permanent, for more than thirteen years have passed and the error has not reappeared.
I cherish a deep feeling of gratitude to our Father-Mother God for this wonderful healing, as well as to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who has restored to us this Christ-teaching.
