My first healing in Christian Science took place years ago. I was then suffering from intestinal catarrh in its most pernicious form. I was under the doctor's care and undergoing treatment. As time went on I began to realize that I was not getting better, for the treatment only held the disease in check, and if I stopped the treatment for a day or two I was much worse.
About this time several of my friends started to study Christian Science, and they told me to buy the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read it. This I did. At that time I knew nothing about practitioners, lectures, the Christian Science services, or the Lesson Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. But I persistently read on, knowing two things: that every word in this book was the truth, and that Christian Science healed. In a short time I was freed from the distressing condition. This healing took place over sixteen years ago, and I have never had the slightest return of the trouble. Since that time we have had many healings in our family, sometimes through our own understanding, and sometimes through the help of a practitioner.
When seven years old our younger son broke one of his ribs, and had an instantaneous healing. The same child cut his right thumb with a penknife, cutting away quite a large piece at the end of the thumb, and part of the nail. The thumb healed in nine days without any material application; the truth only was applied.
