Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science found me...

From the September 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science found me nearly ten years ago at a time of great need. I was suffering physically from a bad breakdown, the result of work in a hospital during the war. Four doctors diagnosed an incurable nervous disease, and the rest called it "functional paralysis" due to shock. I tried electricity and massage. Electricity seemed for a time to do me good, but any little ailment that I might have during that time just threw me back to where I started from. Finally, just before I found Christian Science, the last doctor, who was most kind, sent me to four specialists in London. There I met someone who had been healed by Christian Science. I was given a Christian Science Sentinel to read, and when I read the testimonies I felt there was hope for me too. I asked for a practitioner's name, put the last prescription given me into the fire without having it made up, and went to see the practitioner. She explained Christian Science to me very patiently, for I asked innumerable questions, having already met with false mental healing, so called, which at first seemed to me to be similar, although it had failed to heal me.

After a few days I found I was getting a little better, and to my amazement a difficulty which I had had from childhood, and for which I had taken medicine daily, disappeared. After six weeks in town I returned to my home in the country, and my relatives saw a great improvement. The healing was slow but sure. During that time I experienced many other healings, and the practitioner always reflected such loving compassion and patience that I was cheered to go on; and now I can do all that is necessary and live a normal, useful life.

Some time ago I had another beautiful healing from the results of an accident. When I was driving my car one afternoon, my puppy, which was tied in quite safely I thought, suddenly jumped over and hung by his collar. Instinctively I leaned across the car to pull him up, but in doing so I evidently turned the wheel, and the car crashed into a large military lorry. I broke the windshield with my forehead, the hand brake ripped a deep cut to the bone in the calf of my leg, and I was thrown with my ribs against the driving wheel. The sergeant from the lorry lifted me out of the car, and three men in a car just behind drove me home. One was very anxious to take me to a doctor on the way, but I said I wanted a Christian Science practitioner. I then found that one of three men was a Christian Scientist. The wonderful protection of that was, I think, the chief thing that impressed me afterwards. They brought the practitioner at once; she stayed with me till evening and helped me up to bed. My face was black from the blow, and I had a lump like an egg on my forehead, but it hardly hurt me. I was able to go downstairs and write a letter next morning. In two days I was walking in the garden, and in six days I was in church giving a testimony about my experience. After the first few days the ribs ceased to trouble me.
