THE POWER OF LOVE

From the September 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Love was better understood by Jesus than by any other; and this understanding enabled him to gain the victory over the so-called laws and superstitions of mortal mind. Love, as Jesus discerned it, was a vitalizing power, which manifested itself through right thought and action to meet every phase of human need. He never knew or admitted lack; his consciousness was so filled with divine Love that he was enabled to prove that God, ever present Love, is the source of ever availble supply. Here is the solution for all of life's problems.

Jesus proved this fact when he gave Peter instructions as to how to find the tribute money in the fish's mouth. When the need of food for the multitude in the desert was apparent, Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes through his understanding of the infinitude and omnipotence of divine Love. Not only did he meet the need of the people, but he further proved the abundance of Love's supply when he instructed his disciples to gather the twelve baskets of fragments that remained after the great company had been fed.

The evidence of the material senses did not disturb Jesus. Through his spiritual communion with God he realized that the material sense of lack could not testify in the presence of infinite Love. He recognized that the universal belief of lack is lack of the understanding of God as Love, and that mortals pay the last farthing of penalty because of this ignorance. He presented to his disciples the parable of the prodigal, who, through material sense, seemed separated from man's divine origin and consequently became poor; when he regained his place in his father's household, as a beloved son, he also regained his rightful portion.
