Some years ago I was an invalid, confined to my bed a greater portion of the time by what doctors diagnosed as gallstones. I had suffered from this for four years. I was told that an operation, which would be tedious, expensive, and serious, might after several months give me relief, or that I might go to Carlsbad, Germany, and stay for months and find help; but each and all said the relief, would probably be only temporary. As I had four small children, and no one with whom to leave them, I could not consider taking either of these treatments.
While in Chicago, living on a starvation diet, with my body swollen and twisted from the pain, I heard of Christian Science. After one month's treatment I was healed of the fear, the pain, and the deformity. Since then I have been stronger than I ever was as a girl; and I have seen those small children grow up and have families of their own.
About sixteen years ago, when I started downstairs one day with my arms full of books, the heels of my slippers caught and I fell to my knees, turning my feet back under me, and in that position I slid to the bottom of the stairs. One ankle was broken, and when the surgeon put the cast on it be told us it would be eight weeks before it could be removed. At the end of the third week I removed the cast, and during the fifth week I attended church in the neighborhood, without stick or crutch, and did not limp.
