Testimonies of Healing

In John we find these words of...

From the August 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In John we find these words of Jesus: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." As one of his followers, it is my duty and blessed privilege to bear loving witness to the truth as set forth by him centuries ago and as discovered and revealed to the world by Mary Baker Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other writings.

In early childhood I had learned of Christian Science, but through a misapprehension of its teachings had become prejudiced toward what I believed it to be. Later, becoming the wife of a physician had not lessened this prejudice, although in the communities in which we then lived we came into little contact with it. Finally, after my loved ones, home, and all that I held dear had been swept away from me, I turned to the Bible for help, but I failed to find solace in the promises as explained in the orthodox teachings. Certain friends mentioned Christian Science to me, but thinking it to be merely a method of suggestion, I did not investigate it at that time. However, there was a constant prayer in my heart for help, and I sought the light in many directions, for, as I then expressed it, I was looking for "a practical Christianity, not a verbal religion."

At one time, realizing that Christian Science was one method which I had not yet tried, I consulted a practitioner. Although she was very kind and loving, when God was spoken of I did not grasp the meaning, for I was thinking of my former concept of God, in whom I had lost faith, so I did not seem to receive benefit. But sorrow after sorrow came, until in a veritable maelstrom of fear, anxiety, and discord I was again offered help in Christian Science, consented to treatment, and to my surprise received help. I then began a diligent study of this new-found truth and very soon read "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur, at which time all prejudice disappeared.
