It has been my desire for a long time to express my gratitude for Christian Science by sending a testimony to one of our periodicals. To tell of all the healings I have had, both spiritual and physical, would require too much space, so I will mention just a few. Sick headaches that were always conflicting with any plans I might make, a cough that was very annoying, and sore throat that would manifest itself as soon as the cool fall wind began to blow, a sprained knee, the fear of lightning and wind storms, have all been overcome through the study of Christian Science.
A short time ago, while washing windows, I had a severe fall, breaking some of my ribs and striking my body just over the kidneys on a heavy kitchen cabinet. Immediately I declared that "accidents are unknown to God," as our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 424). It seemed as if every organ in my body were displaced. I felt as if I were losing consciousness, but rebuked that evil suggestion with the truth by declaring, "God is my Life; I cannot lose consciousness." By that time some of the fear had been overcome, and I motioned with my hand to my husband, at work in the yard, to come to me. I could not speak much above a whisper.
My husband telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner who lives only a few blocks away, and she was soon with me. As she came into my room she audibly declared, "God's idea never fell." She also repeated these lines from Science and Health (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." Then she silently treated me for about twenty minutes. I plainly felt a movement or stirring through my ribs and stomach, as if an adjustment were taking place. All the intense suffering vanished. Tears of gratitude flowed from my eyes for this regenerating and healing truth, Christian Science, and with joy I told the practitioner that I was much better. This took place on a Saturday afternoon, and by Wednesday I was able to walk about the house. Thursday morning, with the help of my husband I arose, dressed myself, and began to do some of my housework. Each day there was marked improvement, and soon I was doing all my work.
